Learning Life, an educational nonprofit based in DC, seeks experienced storytellers to help teach storytelling to youth ages 6-18 taking part in a pilot Global Storytelling Challenge.  The Challenge will bring together volunteers with lower-income parents and children every other Sunday, 1-4pm, starting in April, at the Arbor View Community Center at 1212 Southern Ave SE in DC.  There, SE DC youth and families will work through different stations staffed by volunteers who will take them through steps in a storytelling project that will span from April to November, culminating in a final storytelling performance and awards for best stories in mid-November.  During the project, participating youth will first learn more about three international issues they are interested in (i.e., issues that cross borders, like disease, climate change, trade, immigration, or issues that happen in two or more countries, like bullying, poverty, homelessness), then choose one issue about which they want to tell a story, craft a true or fictional story using one or more art forms (acting, dancing, singing, miming, poetry, painting, drawing, etc.), then practice and ultimately perform their story before an audience.

We are looking for 2-4 metro DC storytellers interested in participating in this storytelling project every other Sunday.  Storytellers should enjoy working with kids, and have experience effectively telling stories before live audiences.  Experience teaching storytelling to kids is a plus but not required.  For more info, or to volunteer, contact Paul Lachelier at paul@learninglife.info.  Thank you!
