As I write this, I am sitting in bleachers overlooking my youngest daughter, Baby Girl, doing her thing at gymnastic practice. In her pink outfit with her hair pulled back into an afro puff, she bends and twist in ways that would have me in the hospital for sure. It’s a small moment, yet it’s a big moment. Despite all that I am pulled to do, I am able to carve some time out for her today. I don’t know what memories will stick in her mind for the rest of her life, but I know which ones will for me. Wouldn’t it be great if there was a way to capture these moments with the people in your life that matter this much? Oh wait! There is. And it’s Called Story Corps.

Story Corps is an organization that records interviews and stories between two people as a way of connecting them. In the process, others are connected as well. The two people are connected by the stories they share between each other. And because you get to listen to the stories, you just got connected so someone else by hearing there story. At times, you will hear your world view echoed, other times, that same view will be challenged. Some are hilarious, some are heartbreaking, all will touch you right in your heart.

After years of being an instructor in the military and the and the fire service, I realized I needed to improve my delivery. My students needed me to improve delivery. But how do I improve my delivery? Simple. I finally took a member of Toastmasters up on the invitation to come to a meeting. It wasn't long until I joined. Along the way of improving my skills at delivering a message, I came to understand that of all the ways to get a point across, telling stories is the best way to get it done. Around this time, another friend from Toastmasters told me about The Moth monthly story telling shows. What better way to test out my theories on storytelling. It's in my travels there to the shows that I found more and more shows, and classes, and events centered around storytelling. Despite how many people know about the storytelling world, not many people know about the storytelling world. So now, I'm out to tell the world about storytelling.
