Author: Nick Baskerville

After years of being an instructor in the military and the and the fire service, I realized I needed to improve my delivery. My students needed me to improve delivery. But how do I improve my delivery? Simple. I finally took a member of Toastmasters up on the invitation to come to a meeting. It wasn't long until I joined. Along the way of improving my skills at delivering a message, I came to understand that of all the ways to get a point across, telling stories is the best way to get it done. Around this time, another friend from Toastmasters told me about The Moth monthly story telling shows. What better way to test out my theories on storytelling. It's in my travels there to the shows that I found more and more shows, and classes, and events centered around storytelling. Despite how many people know about the storytelling world, not many people know about the storytelling world. So now, I'm out to tell the world about storytelling.

Storytelling Shows in Nov

What makes me thankful? From 1 Nov to 30 Nov there are 32 storytelling shows on this list! There could be more, but this is all that I could find before posting. What makes me even more thankful is that I am telling stories in 2 of them (along with performing in a standup comedy … Continue reading Storytelling Shows in Nov

Podcast Post: TED Radio Hour

Who doesn't like a good TED Talk, right? And while a number of the best TED talks have stories in them, they are not necessarily stores as a whole. Unless, you listen to the TED Radio Hour Podcast. Hosted by Guy Raz, listeners are treated to a mash up of different talks that are put … Continue reading Podcast Post: TED Radio Hour

Podcast Post: Speak Up

I am consistently on the lookout for ways to improve. A number of the storytelling podcasts I have recommended so far are more about enjoying a story, learning about a topic, or sharing a particular view. The Speak Up podcast helps me to meet a different need: getting better at telling stories. Matthew and Elysha … Continue reading Podcast Post: Speak Up

Podcast Post: Expressing Motherhood

There is a whole lot to being a mother. Sure, dads have their share of stuff to deal with. Hearing stories about the  ups and downs of being a mother helps me to see a world I don't live in. Being in the presence of my mom and my wife and all the other mom's … Continue reading Podcast Post: Expressing Motherhood

Oct Storytelling Shows

Of the many reasons to tell a story, scaring the daylights out of a person probably makes the 10 list. It makes sense, then, that a number of the shows this month happen to have that theme. Then there are shows like All The Feels, The Good Girl Chronicles, and Health's Angles that are advocating … Continue reading Oct Storytelling Shows

Podcast Post: Hidden Brain

Why people think the way they think has always fascinated me. There was a time when I would read every page of research I could to learn more about How people think. The quirks related to human personality and thinking intrigue me. Like many here in the DC area, I spend a considerable amount of … Continue reading Podcast Post: Hidden Brain
