Author: Nick Baskerville

After years of being an instructor in the military and the and the fire service, I realized I needed to improve my delivery. My students needed me to improve delivery. But how do I improve my delivery? Simple. I finally took a member of Toastmasters up on the invitation to come to a meeting. It wasn't long until I joined. Along the way of improving my skills at delivering a message, I came to understand that of all the ways to get a point across, telling stories is the best way to get it done. Around this time, another friend from Toastmasters told me about The Moth monthly story telling shows. What better way to test out my theories on storytelling. It's in my travels there to the shows that I found more and more shows, and classes, and events centered around storytelling. Despite how many people know about the storytelling world, not many people know about the storytelling world. So now, I'm out to tell the world about storytelling.

More Places, More Spaces

It seems that every few weeks I am finding storytelling shows and events that I never knew existed. I just updated the "Storytelling Places and Spaces" page (see the link below) with some new ones that will be occurring on a regular basis. Eventually, I plan to make my way to all of the ones … Continue reading More Places, More Spaces

Podcast Post: Story Corps

As I write this, I am sitting in bleachers overlooking my youngest daughter, Baby Girl, doing her thing at gymnastic practice. In her pink outfit with her hair pulled back into an afro puff, she bends and twist in ways that would have me in the hospital for sure. It's a small moment, yet it's … Continue reading Podcast Post: Story Corps

Podcast Post: Revisionist History

I've read just about everyone of Malcolm Gladwell's books. And every time, I have been wrapped up the stories he tells. Especially when he retells them from a different perspective. So when he came out with the Podcast Revisiontist History, adding that to my podcast playlist was a no brainer. I haven't been disappointed. I … Continue reading Podcast Post: Revisionist History

Podcast Post: Story District

After getting off stage telling my very first story at The Moth, a person in the crowd said to me, "You should take a class with Story District". Story District has been running shows and workshops in DC for over 20 years. This year, they added a podcast. Considering that my hectic schedule has afforded … Continue reading Podcast Post: Story District

Get Educated With Stories

Storytelling has long been hailed as the original learning tool. And since school is starting again all over the region, why not take on learning in its original form. Not sure that you can get extra credit, but you can have extra fun. Want your show listed in a monthly blogpost? Send me info about … Continue reading Get Educated With Stories

Podcast Post: The Report

Watching the presiding of political trials rarely catches my interest. I wait for the highlights on the news, probably like most people. The downside to this is that the highlights may not have info in there that is important to me. Information that would change how I think about a person or issue. Too bad … Continue reading Podcast Post: The Report
